Glaciers & Coffee
The high altitude (1,300m+) and rich volcanic soils produce some of the finest organic Arabica beans in East Africa. At Rwenzori Hantravel Safaris, we take you straight to the source. This isn’t a factory tour; it’s a farm visit.
“Work alongside a local farmer to turn red cherries into fresh black coffee using methods that haven’t changed in generations.”
The Traditional Process
The Harvest
Walk through the steep hillside gardens where the air is cool and fresh. If it’s the season, you don’t just watch—you help hand-pick the ripe red cherries, learning to select only the best beans.
Pulp & Dry
See how we wash the beans to remove the pulp and then spread them on open trestles. They are sun-dried in the pure mountain air, slowly developing their rich flavor profile.
The Roast
This is the best part. You roast the green beans yourself over an open fire using a traditional clay pot. As the beans darken and crackle, the aroma fills the air—it is incredible.
Grind & Taste
Using a wooden mortar and pestle, we grind the beans by hand. Then, we brew it and drink the freshest cup of coffee you will ever have, right there in the garden.
Trip Logistics
Support the local farmers by buying bags of freshly roasted beans to take back with you.
