Nature Walks
& Short Treks
Experience the biodiversity of the Mountains of the Moon without a heavy expedition. Discover prehistoric forests, rare birds and glacial rivers.
The true biodiversity lives
at the mountain’s edge.
You do not need to climb to 5,109 meters to understand the magic of the Rwenzori. Our guided walks are designed for those who want to slow down, look through a lens and breathe in the prehistoric air of Africa’s highest tropical rainforest.
At Rwenzori Hantravel Safaris, we prioritize accessible paths that maximize your encounter with wildlife while minimizing physical strain.

The Mubuku
Forest Walk.
We stay within the park boundaries but avoid the technical ascents. The goal is to slow down and look for the unique life that inhabits the foothills of the Moon.
“You will walk through tall elephant grass and deep into the cloud forest canopy. Spot the bright red wings of the Turaco as you cross the river on swinging bridges.”

Heritage of the Heights
Nyabitaba &
Lake Mahoma.
This is the best taster of the high mountain. You climb the Kyambogho ridge and reach Lake Mahoma, the lowest glacial lake in the range, without the commitment of a seven day expedition.
The Journey Plan
Kyambogho Ascent
Ascend from the valley floor. We overnight at Nyabitaba Hut at 2,651 meters, where the montane forest meets the bamboo zone.
Glacial Waters
A peaceful morning trek to Lake Mahoma. It is incredibly quiet and photogenic. After soaking in the views, we descend back to basecamp.
