On this trek, you will navigate up through the dense montane forests, into the bamboo zone, and cross the famous, surreal Bigo Bogs filled with giant lobelias. Your destination is the stunning Lake Bujuku, which sits perfectly nestled in a deep glacier-carved valley directly beneath the towering peaks of Mount Stanley and Mount Baker.

Daily Itinerary
Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut
Begin your ascent from the basecamp through thick equatorial rainforest, listening for Rwenzori Turacos and Blue Monkeys. The steady climb ends at Nyabitaba Hut.
Nyabitaba to John Matte Hut
Cross the Kurt Shafer Bridge over the Mubuku River. Navigate steep, rocky sections through the bamboo forest to reach John Matte Hut.
John Matte to Bujuku Hut
Cross the infamous Bigo Bogs. Navigate boardwalks through surreal giant lobelias to reach Lake Bujuku, sitting in a spectacular deep glacier-carved valley beneath Mount Stanley.
Bujuku Hut to Nyabitaba Hut
Begin your descent back down the mountain. You will cross back over the Bigo Bogs and pass through John Matte, continuing all the way down to the warmer climate of Nyabitaba Hut.
Nyabitaba to Basecamp Departure
A short morning descent through the lush tropical rainforest brings you back to the Nyakalengija Basecamp to complete your trek.
